Weary at Retirement?

Here it is Tuesday, January 3, 2012. Yes! I'm quite sure of it because I woke up almost as the day was new. I'm a fresh retiree. Really? Not yet. Still hanging on to using up those much protected and beloved vacation days. So, yes, I am on vacation for at least 2 more weeks. Then they'll turn me loose onto the world, and I'll plunge into it, feeling much as I did when I graduated from high school.

That seems like eons ago, me, fresh faced marching out of the building with my tassel on the other side, the other side that meant freedom and fear at the same time. I'll write about that later.

Right now I'm wondering why my sleep pattern has suddenly decided to change. This morning I woke up at 1:35 AM or some outrageous time like that, tossed and turned until 2:30 and by 3 AM, I thought there was no need in laying in bed, so I got up.

I goofed around a little bit on Facebook and read and re-read some e-mail. Sometimes things take a little bit to sink in, you know?! Then I thought, with the quietness of the world at this dark moment in the early morning, I'd use it to write, though my brain feels a bit foggy, I'll do my best.

My first retirement question is this, just because I am now re"tired." Does it mean I will be tired all the time?!?

  1. It takes a little time to readjust to a change in your lifestyle. You are beginning where you will find a new place to fit into. You hopefully will be meeting new friends. You hopefully can spend some time doing some of the things you've dreamed and thought about when you were a tad bit younger and didn't have the time for. Consider this an new start. But this time you can make some plans and changes in your lifestyle you've thought about doing for yourself. The important thing I feel is that you enjoy yourself to the best that you can possibly manage. Reach for your stars. Enjoy yourself.

  3. Congrats on your retirement! Since I've retired once already I am a little bit qualified to comment. For me, I felt energized and relieved. But it is a huge life change, no doubt and can be difficult for some...more later!

  7. Well, if you were a football star, like that guy you used to root for, what's his name, I forget,... I'd say you get 3-4 chances to retire.

  9. It's amazing that any of us "boomers" can retire securely. I wish you all the best at finding it a vacation rather than a series of endless nights and very short days. It would be really nice if the third chapter in your book of life was as much fun as were the first two.

  10. Thank you Roberto. So far, other than a disruptive sleep pattern, things have been really nice. And, I am now, slowing going back to my "work" sleeping pattern. That is not staying up so late and not sleeping in so late either. My sleep brain must have been celebrating the turning off of the alarm clock as well.
